Langtang National Park lies adjacent to the Tibet border and is eight-hours drive from Kathmandu to the park headquarters Dhunche. The great variety of vegetation is one of the park’s most striking features. Eight vegetation zone, based on the classification by Dobremez are represented. Oaks, Chirpine, Maple, Fir, Blue pine, Hemlock, Spruce and various species of Rhododendr on make up the main forest species. Above 4000 m alpine scrub and grass give way to rocks and snow. Most of the trail towards the Langtang valley passes through alpine meadows and moraine. Gosainkunda area is another attraction of this trek. Gosainkunda is uninhabited area with a series of holy lakes. The trail climbs to high altitude forest, alpine meadows and remote rugged country.
The variation in altitude and topography along with the existing forest cover (approximately 25 % of total area) provides habitat for wide range of animals including wolf, red panda, pika, muntjac, musk deer, himalyan thar, goral, rhesus monkey, langur, spotted leopard, and himalayan black bear.
