Trekking in the Langtang region takes in the complex topography and geology of the area, together with the varied climatic condition of Langtang National Park, including a wide spectrum of vegetation types such as a sub-tropical forest. Superb views of Langtang-ri, Ganesh himal and Dorjee Lakpa can be enjoyed. Animal life is abundant and it is an area where many endangered species live, including the Red Panda, the Black Bear and the Himalayan Tahr. Culturally, the area is home to several ethnic groups including Tamang and Sherpa people.
Also within this region is a chance to view 108 sacred lakes of Goshainkunda, an area steeped in folklore and mystery, set in the heart of Langtang National Park. During the August full moon, both Hindus and Bon Buddhists hold a festival at Goshainkunda, called "Janaipurnima", where many Shamanist rites can be observed. On the trek, we will spend time viewing many of the lakes and learning of their legends. |
