Himlung Himal Expedition
Himlung Himal Expedition, 7126 Mtr -
The Himlung Himal is situated in the Manaslu region northeast of the Annapurna region, which is considered one of the remote corners of Nepal and Tibet border. This mountain has been becoming popular day by day to the climbers on these present days. Himlung Himal with an altitude of 7126 meters lies in the remote corner of Nepal and Tibet boarder. Previously a restricted region, Nepal Government opened the region only in 1992 by and so far only a few expedition teams including Japanese and French have summitted Mount Himlung. Expedition for Himlung Himal follows Round Annapurna route to Koto and from Koto towards Nar-phu Gaon. The route passes through high peaks and passes, glaciers, remote villages, narrow gullies, forests, rocks, springs, Gompas and unique cultural settlements. The expedition also offers mysterious culture and panoramic mountain views of Nandadevi, Rajramba, Api Himal, Kappa Chuli Peak and many more. Himlung Himal isn’t of particularly difficult it is a very beautiful course of alpinism in altitude from its Base Camp to the summit. The route to Phu Gaon from Manang is newly opened and fewer tourists have visited, so far. These routes are combined with high peaks and passes, glaciers, remote villages, narrow gullies, lovely forests, amazing rock and spring formations, Gompas and unique varied cultures. Base camp will be established at the height of 4900m; which is located at the upper border of one of pastures belong to Phu. Normally three high camps will be established to reach the Summit. Camp I at the height of 5450m, Camp II at 6000m and Camp III at 6350m. Technically Mt. Himlung Himal is not so difficult. It is very beautiful mountain for alpinism in altitude from its base camp to the Summit.
Day to day Itinerary -

DAY 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu [1,300m/4,264 ft]
Upon our arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, we will be warmly greeted by a representative from Beauty Nepal Adventure. After completion of our custom formalities (Visa, etc), we pick up our luggage and look for our representative with Beauty Nepal Adventure display board at the arrival gate.We will be then escorted to Hote  in kathmandu. After check in, we can either take a rest or hang around in the city  site. It all depends upon our interests and condition. At the evening upon our reception, Beauty Nepal Adventure will organize a Welcome Dinner at an excellent traditional Nepalese restaurant where we enjoy a Nepalese cultural program as well as a fine meal. Included meal: Dinner (D)
Note: B refers to Breakfast, L refers to Lunch and D refers to Dinner

Day 02: At leisure in Kathmandu/Briefing at the Ministry of Tourism.
As a government formality, a group has to select one person as the Team Leader whether s/he is being chosen by the team or simply nominated has to stay at the Ministry of Tourism for a briefing by the government officials which takes about 20 minutes, whereas rest of the members have the chance to relax or explore the Kathmandu valley. Overnight in Hotel.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Besisahar, then to Bhulbhule (1,316m / 4317ft).
Our Himlung expedition starts with early overland drive from Kathmandu to Beshishar. A pleasant journey through the Araniko highway. The journey is much comfortable than driving to any other part of Nepal as the road condition is good / better than others roads to different part of Nepal. After the security check-post at Thankot we begin our journey towards the  bank of Marshyangdi river. After approx. 80 km drive there are two roads one leading to Pokhara and another to Beshishahar and we then drive to Beshishahar & further to Bulbule. This is a long day’s drive of approximately 7 hours. Overnight in Lodge.

Day 04: Trek to Shyange (1136m /
This day we get up early and after having breakfast we begin our first day’s trekking by the Karnali river bank. This day is a hot but an easy walk. Upon few hours we reach at a beautiful village of the region at Ngadi, where we have our lunch and then proceed further to our camp at Shyange where we reach approx by 6 o’clock in the evening. Overnight in Lodge.

Day 05: Trek to Dharapani (1870m / 6135ft.).
As usual upon having breakfast in the morning the journey continues. This days is slightly longer than previous days, but an easy walk by the Karnali rover on the left hand side. We have our lunch and then continue walking followed by straight then for nearly 1 hours and then trail leads straight steeper until we see beautiful village of Jagat and then follows down hill walking until we reach in Jagat through gorgeous waterfall and beautiful sceneries. And upon reaching at Taal we have lunch and after that again the journey begins entering through the check post here. We will be walking through one of the most impressive trails. We cross the same river three times (Marshyangdi river), finally we arrive in Dharapani village with gorgeous views around. Overnight in Lodge.

Day 06: Trek to Koto
(2628m / 8,620ft).
This day also involves as previous days with slow ascent, well acclimatization we walk through the Annapurna and Manaslu range. We would also have the magnificent view of Lamjung Himal from Danaque after some walk. There are two trails one the classic and another newly opened and used by us which is of course more worthwhile than the classic one. So, after few minutes walk from Danaque we take the upper trail to have the most magnificient views of Manaslu range, many people ignore or do not know about this trail, but we have been always there, so know the objectives of walking toward this trail instead of walking by the by the Marshyangdi river again.  Then upon arrival in Temang we have our lunch with majestic Manaslu range infront of us. From here the trail is straight and then slightly down till we reach in Koto village. Overnight in Lodge.

Day 07: Koto-Dharmasala (3164m / 10,380ft.).
Upon again another check-post in Koto in the morning our Himlung Himal expedition begins towards Phugaon. We leave the Hinduist community and enter to the Buddhist community. There are two trails upper leading towards Manang and down trail leading to Phugaoin, so we take the downward trail, and after crossing the river Marshyangdi river for the last time we begin the journey by Naar Khola (river). Today’s journey is almost full day through the jungle, alpine trees and sometimes with glimpse of mountains. There are no human settlement in Dharmasala excpet a small shelter built for porter or yaks built by the government, so we do camping for overnight stay. Overnight in Camp.

Day 08: Trek to Kyang (3,886m / 12746ft.).
Today walking through the jungle terminates after 20 minutes walk and then the trail is steep up for 50 minutes till we reach the ancient Tibetan village at Meta. This was a very  ancient Tibetan (Khampa) village, but now these are only used for yaks as Kharkas and sheeps. Following the trail straight further then down towards a river where we have our lunch. Then following up the trail again, we soon have the sights of Naar and Phu region with different trails, but we take the upper trail to Phugaon. And still walking further we soon have the sight of our campp site Kyang. This is also another big ancient village for Tibetan ethnic people, where the people form Phugaon live here during the winter season with their yaks, sheep and cows when there will be snowing in Phugaon, but during other seasons they leave the village and live in Phugaoin.  Todyay is the the best camping spot for us on the grassy field along the Annapurna range in the east and Mt. Kanguru (6710m) on the north surrounding above us. Overnight in Camp.

Day 09: Trek to Phugaon (Phu village-4131m / 13550ft.).
After having breakfast we again get ready for our onward journey follwed by slightly steep trail and then again down by the Naar Khola. And our trail at last  again follows  steep up for few minutes and then have the first sight of Phugaon. This is the last village of the region. The Tibetan ethnic people were migrated here from Tibet long before settling here permanently. This village is very mysterious with many monuments, Tshortens and manis(Tibetan Scripts) on the way. We camp on the beautiful wheat field. This day is a shorter days that we arrive by lunch at our camp, that means we arrive here by 12. 30 pm. Overnight in Camp.

Day 10:    Rest and acclimatization day in Phugaon.
This is an ideal place for rest and acclimatization and local exploration. As we are already in altitude and need our body to altitude adaptation before heading to higher altitude and at the same time, there are many things to be seen and explored in the village, the ancient monasteries etc... We also have beautiful views of Ratna Chuli, Himlung Himal, Pokharavan and Kanguru etc. We also can access higher on the hill above Phugaon to acclimatize and come down to camp. We also have a chance to a very ancient monastery above the village. Overnight in Camp.

Day 11: Trek to Himlung Himal Base Camp (4,842m / 15885ft.).
Now everyone well acclimatized and ready to further begin the journey to Himlung Base Camp. Today we begin our trek through the glacier with good beautiful sights of  landscape, yak pastures and mountain sceneries. There are few trails making confusion, but at last the junction will be the same and easy to find out except before some walk before reaching to Base Camp where there are two trails one leading to Ratna Chuli Base Camp and another to Himlung Himal Base Camp and as per our objective we take the upper trail and soon we arrive to our camping spot into a grassy land with some mountain chains. The Base camp can be seen from far away too and easily recognizeable, so its not difficult even we walk separately. This is the base where we stay approximately 9-10 depending how quickly we summit Himlung. Overnight in Camp.

Day 12-13: At rest & preparation for the climb.
We reserve these days for better acclimatization, preparation for the ascension, checking euqipments, simple training on using different equipments etc… This is because we always want to make sure that we put maximum client to the summit with proper briefing and well preparation, so that we do not encounter with some unusual incidence. Overnight in Camp.

Day 14: Ascend up to Camp I
Now everyone ready for the ascension we move to Himlung Camp I. This day we first walk on the glacier for one and half hour and then on steep on the snow from where we put on the mountaineering shoes and fix on crampons. Possibly other equipments like harness if necessary. Generally there will be fixed ropes if necessary and we clip the safety belt on it, to make sure that we are 100% safe! Though the route of ascent changes every year but the strategy will be normally the same. Overnight in Camp.

Day 15: Return to Base Camp.
We return to BC for rest. Overnight in Camp.

Day 16: Ascent to Camp I & sleep.
This day we reserve extra day in Camp I for better adaptation to altitude, during this day we ascend upto Himlung Himal Camp II or half of the way and then return again to Camp I or for people who are not yet well acclimatized can return to Base Camp and join the group next day. Overnight in Camp.

Day 17: Ascend to Camp II
We now move to Camp II. Our High altitude sherpas will have already fixed the ropes wherever necessary and set up camps, deposit food, fuel and other logistical things where as the members also will help them to carry some equipments if possible. As mentioned earlier that the route of ascent changes year by year but the strategy does not change so we set up camp II at an elevation of  and the views around are magnificent with the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. We have the sights as far as the Mt. Fishtail along with Annapurna I, II, III, IV, V, Dhaulagiri and other mountains. From there the summit of Himlung Himal can be seen far away behind. The camp is longer, windier and the temperature is of course high too. The camp seems as if on the South Col of Everest South. Overnight in Camp.

Day 18: Ascend to Himlung Himal Camp III & return to Camp II
Now we move to the last camp. Crossing over a snowy hill, our camp will be seen from far away too. This spot is not on a plain snow, so we dig up the snow and then set up camps. We feel the feel the real altitude here, but we we arrive earlier than normal duration, and we return to Camp I for overnight stay. so we do preparations for the next day’s ascent of Himlung. Overnight in Camp.

Day 19: Move to CAMP III
Camp III is the last camp from where we attempt the summit of Himlung Himal. Overnight in Camp.

Day 20: Ascent of Himlung Himal.
This day is our dream come true day, so we make every efforts to get maximum climbers to the summit. We wake up as early as 3 o’clock in the morning and after having some breakfast; preparing some snacks and fluids in thermos flasks we leave the camp at about half past 3. There are several routes for the ascent but we found the North East route be more safe, but depends upon the snow condition and other factors involved, we choose the safest route to the summit. The route is quite steep and involves some struggles, but on more difficult section, there will be fixed ropes so we simply jumar up and ascend. The view from the summit is ausome as if the summit of Everest itself Tibet on the North and Nepal on South and we stand just between the two boundaries. Theres is only small space on the summit, so we do not rest on top for long time taking photos, enjoying the marvelous views of the Tibetan plateau and the mountain chains of Nepal, we descend down to Base Camp. Overnight in Camp.

Day 21: Extra day for Himlung Himal Summit. Overnight in Camp.

Day 22: Another extra summit day for Himlung Himal. Overnight in Camp.

Day 23: Packing up at Himlung Base Camp for return.
On this day we take shower, pack our things, clean up Base Camp and prepare to return. Overnight in Camp.

Day 24: Trek to Phugaon.
Now everyone ready and excited to return back, we walk via the same route to our previous day’s camp in Phugaon. Overnight in Camp.

Day 25: Trek to Kyang (3,886m / 12746ft.). Overnight in Camp.

Day 26: Trek to Dharmasala (3164m / 10,380ft.). Overnight in Camp.

Day 27: Trek to Koto (2628m / 8,620ft.). Overnight in Camp.

Day 28: Trek to Tal (1653m). Overnight in Camp.

Day 29: Trek to Shyange (1136m). Overnight in Camp.

Day 30: Trek to Beshisahar (890m). Overnight in Camp.

Day 31: Drive Beshishar/Kathmandu & transfer to Hotel. Overnight in Camp.
